Environmental Sustainability: Pfizer Is on a Green Journey
Pfizer has a long-standing commitment to environmental, health and safety protection. We are building on the strengths of our environmental programs to enhance sustainable practices throughout our businesses.
While we are proud of initiatives to ensure full compliance with legal requirements and our many achievements over the years, our Environmental Sustainability Program is designed to develop a more integrated and strategic approach. These are among actions under way:
- Setting near-term and longer-range priorities for environmental activities with guidance from business partners and stakeholders.
- Communicating and engaging with stakeholders on issues and progress.
- Maintaining a foundation that aligns with Pfizer's overall Corporate Responsibility pledge to reduce our environmental impact globally.
The path toward environmentally sound business practices begins with a better understanding of our extended environmental footprint and how it's changing. The journey begins with these steps:
- Embedding current environmental programs that work into a strategic operating framework.
- Seizing opportunities to preserve natural resources.
- Maintaining the quality of our physical surroundings.
A comprehensive materiality assessment process assisted Pfizer in prioritizing environmental efforts that are important to stakeholders and that can increase the success of our business. This process along with internal interviews, external benchmarking and best practices, and value proposition evaluation led to three key strategic priorities.
- Mitigating climate change and its impacts
- Leading product stewardship efforts
- Promoting sustainable access to potable water
Identifying these three areas of strategic focus – climate change mitigation, product stewardship, access to clean water – formed the basis of our environmental sustainability roadmap. The roadmap includes both short-term and long-term activities for advancing our three sustainability priorities and strategies.
